Why should I joing the CSUN/LAUSD Joint Induction / Master's Program?
- I will earn both a Professional Clear Credential and an advanced degree --- a Master of Arts in Education with a concentration in Teaching and Learning
- I will receive an official academic transcript delineating all coursework complete at CSUN, which can be used to:
- Determine my eligibility for salary increase
- Determine my placement on the salary schedule should I need to move and join another school district
- Prepare an application for an advanced studies degree program I may wish to enter in the future (e.g. doctoral program)
- Determine if some of my MA coursework can be applied toward an advanced studies program (e.g. doctoral program)
Why is a Master's Degree important in the teaching profession?
With a Master's Degree, I will:
- Improve the achievement of my students
- Enhance my practice in the classroom
- Contribute to the professional growth of my colleagues
- Facilitate my success in passing the National Board Teacher Certification Examination
- Facilitate my career advancement within the district (e.g. teacher leader, master teacher, support provider, mentor, coach, program coordinator, etc.)
- Be eligible to apply for a part-time teaching position at the university level
Outcomes of the CSUN/LAUSD Joint Induction/Master's Program
Once you have successfully completed all program requirements, you will be:
- Recommended for a Professional Clear Credential
- Recommended for a Master of Arts in Education Degree, Teaching and Learning
You will develop as a professional educator who demonstrates:
- Reflective practice by critically examining your subject knowledge, pedagogical content knowledge, and pedagogical skills to improve diver student's learning
- Theoretical understanding by reading, synthesizing, and evaluating educational theory and research in your field and applying research findings to your practices in diverse classroom settings.
- Research skills by designing and conducting research ethically an effectively and presenting your findings at a professional level in oral and written forms
- Educational awareness by knowing current discipline-based and general education issues and how those impact schools
- Leadership by influencing policy and practice in education communities through advocacy and example
Who is Eligible to participate?
Individuals who meet all of the following:
- Holders of a preliminary single subject credential
- Employed as a classroom teacher by LAUSD
- Enrolled in LAUSD's Beginning Teacher Support and Assessment (BTSA) Induction Program
- Enrolled in CSUN's master's degree
